Finding and retaining employees can be challenging, especially when families are struggling with the rising cost of childcare. Through the North Coast CARE initiative, employers can help support working families by connecting employees with childcare resources, subsidies, and financial assistance while strengthening workforce retention and productivity.
Research shows that childcare concerns can impact employee focus and attendance. Families currently spend an average of 24% of their income on childcare, making access to affordable care a critical workforce issue. The program highlights the benefits of employer-supported childcare, including improved employee retention, reduced stress for working parents, and greater peace of mind that allows employees to focus on their jobs.
Must have children aged 0–13 and not receive other state-sponsored childcare assistance (e.g., Publicly Funded Childcare, Child Care Choice Vouchers, Early Childhood Education Grants).
Must maintain a Silver rating or higher in Ohio’s Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) program.
Lorain County Chamber of Commerce membership is encouraged but not required to participate.
Sign Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Chamber and a participating SUTQ Silver or Gold rated childcare provider.
HR submits Employee Enrollment Forms for employees with children aged 0–13 who are not receiving state-sponsored childcare assistance.
Pay $200 per child per month to the childcare provider.
Notify the Chamber and provider of any changes (e.g., employee termination, child unenrollment) within 5 business days.
Note: With only 100 spots available, prompt enrollment is critical to secure this benefit for your employees.
Businesses contribute $200 per eligible child per month, matched by a $200 State contribution, providing a total benefit of $400 per child per month.
Businesses cover the full cost unless funding is extended by the State or other sources.
Limited Enrollment: Due to grant funding, the program is capped at 100 children at any time. Enrollment is first-come, first-served, with a waitlist if capacity is reached.
